The term "film studies" is used loosely here to include all podcasts that discuss films, movies, and cinema of any quality, in any manner.
The Kick-Ass Mystic Ninjas
KAMN is hosted by Summer Brooks and David Moldawer and assisted by Brian Brown in movie discussions and Tim Adamec with books. Summer and Joe Murphy originate the Ninjas as features in Farpoint Media shows Slice of SciFi, Michael and Evoâs Winginâ It, and The Dragon Page Cover to Cover. Joe Murphy passed away recently.
KAMN discusses science fiction and fantasy movies, books, and TV shows. The titles they discuss have to be a t least ten years old.
Their style is informal and conversational with a lot of back-and-forth, spirited discussion. One of my favorite episodes was the discussion of the classic, The Day the Earth Stood Still where the Ninjas articulate aspects of the movie that had bothered me without quite knowing why.
Out of the Past
Shannon Clute and Richard Edwards investigate one noir or neo-noir film. While they have a sholarly approach to noir films, their discussions are anything but dry, academic treatments. Their enthusiasm for the subject is catching and will increase sales and rentals of the titles discussed.
